SafeguardingSafeguarding God's Children

A training for Children, Youth, and Family ministry leaders in the Safeguarding God’s Children materials, equipping participants to train other ministry leaders within their ministry setting.

Next training
Spring 2012. Details to be announced.

Registration and cost
Cost is $100 per congregation, includes one training guide (additional guides are $10 each). Registration is handled through the Julie Keefe in the Saint Paul Area Synod.

About the training
Safeguarding God’s Children is an in-depth educational and training program for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse in everyday life and in ministry. The materials include a training manual as well as two professionally produced DVDs; one for parents and congregations and one for clergy, employees and volunteers of churches and church organizations involved in youth ministries.

The workshop will train participants to use the Safeguarding God’s Children materials (available through synod office) in their own training sessions.

Workshop leader, the Rev. Karen Stevensen, LICSW, will speak on the implementation of a program for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse and will facilitate discussion surrounding those issues.

Who should attend?
Rostered and lay Children, Youth and Family ministry leaders in the Saint Paul Area and Minneapolis Area Synods are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop. Lay leaders and volunteers working with Children, Youth and Family ministries are welcome to attend.

Why should I attend?
Rostered leaders and those who work in Children, Youth, and Family ministries have the responsibility to insure that the youngest among us are allowed to learn and grow in an environment free from sexual abuse. This interactive workshop will:

  • Train participants to facilitate events for parents and others to raise awareness of child sexual abuse and consider ways to create the safe spaces needed by children and youth.
  • Prepare participants to offer training about chlid sexual abuse prevention to volunteers in their congregations who are working directly with children and youth.
  • Provide participants the opportunity to develop materials and create workshop presentations for their own settings.
