Bishop
The Rev. Peter Rogness was elected bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in April 2002 and re-elected to a second term in 2008. Prior to his call to the Saint Paul Area Synod, he served as bishop of the Greater Milwaukee Synod, where he was first elected in 1987 and re-elected twice. He also served as bishop of the Southern Wisconsin District of The American Lutheran Church (ALC) from 1985 prior to his election to bishop in the Greater Milwaukee Synod. (long bio)
Office Manager
Oversees office operations; provides administrative support to the assistant to the bishop for evangelical mission and the assistant to the bishop for leadership support around candidacy, mobility, and call process; assists with and assigns general office support; and serves as a key participant in planning the synod assembly and other events.
Assistant to the Bishop for Evangelical Mission
Serves as deployed churchwide staff from ELCA Congregational and Synodical Mission; relates to the South Central Conference and urban and ethnic ministries; furthers collaborative mission funding strategies; assists with the care and support of rostered leaders and congregations.
Assistant to the Bishop for Administration
Serves as a liaison to the bishop and provides oversight and coordination around efforts directly related to the bishop's work and synod governance; provides administration and coordination of the office of the bishop; gives oversight to finance, media relations, and communications; and assists with the care and support of rostered leaders and congregations.
Program Assistant, part-time
Serves as receptionist and events registrar; assists with office operations; coordinates the data base; and provides administrative support to the bishop, assistant to the bishop for administration, and assistant to the bishop for congregational life and mission.
Assistant to the Bishop for Congregational Life and Mission
Works to assist congregations and leaders in lifting up a vision for mission of the larger church, supporting and equipping them to participate in that vision; relates to the Southeast Conference, South Conference, and East Central Conference; liaison to Children, Youth, and Family ministry steering committee and Book of Faith advocate; serves as a contact for stewardship ministries and interim pastors; assists with the care and support of rostered leaders and congregations
Communications Specialist
Coordinates and manages print and electronic communications that further the mission and ministry of the congregations and leaders of the Saint Paul Area Synod; serves as webmaster; and works as a member of the synod assembly planning team.
Assistant to the Bishop for Leadership Support
Works to identify, equip, and strengthen leaders, particularly in matters related to candidacy, mobility, and call process; relates to the North Central Conference and North Conference; coordinates First Call Theological Education and events involving those in specialized ministry; assists with the care and support of rostered leaders and congregations.
Financial Administrator, part-time, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Manages financial records and accounts; oversees insurance vendors, legal documents, and the annual audit; coordinates payroll and assists in personnel administration; assists with the financial operation and support of global companion partnerships; serves as resource to congregations about ELCA mission support records and other congregational financial issues; provides support and expertise for programs and initiatives including stewardship, candidacy, mission starts, salary and compensation guidelines, and other efforts that further the ministry of the Saint Paul Area Synod.
