The Rev. Susan Miller

Miller accepted a call to serve as bishop’s associate in the Saint Paul Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in 2005. Prior to this call, she served as interim senior pastor at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove. Susan has served congregations in Wisconsin, Illinois, and New Jersey. She also served as assistant to the bishop in the New Jersey Synod. A native of Brooklyn and Staten Island, N.Y., she was graduated from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., with a degree in psychology, and received the M.A. degree in religion and the M.Div degree from Yale University Divinity School. She was ordained in 1985. She has served as an intentional interim pastor in four congregations and has served on the Board of the Interim Ministry Association, ELCA and as its chair. She is trained as a Healthy Congregations facilitator and Bridgebuilder and has received additional training in conflict management from the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center. She has also served on candidacy committees in four synods. Susan is passionate about congregational life and mission, believing that through the actions of community, God’s presence can be made known and God’s mission can be furthered. She lives in Eagan with her husband, Rudy Hokanson. They are members of Easter Lutheran, Eagan, and are parents to two children, Elizabeth and Aaron, and have one grandchild. |
