St. Barnabas Lutheran Church (15600 Old Rockford Road, Plymouth)

Dr. Herbert Chilstrom, who served as bishop of the Minnesota Synod (LCA) from 1976-1987 and as the first Presiding Bishop of the ELCA from 1988-1995, will speak at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth on Monday, January 29 at 11:45 a.m.

Dr. Chilstrom’s topic will be “Writing Books - An Unexpected Retirement Venture.” He will speak briefly about the eight books he has written since he retired in 1995, ending with a focus on this latest book, When a Father Loses a Son, in which he shares his grief journey in the wake of his son Andrew’s death through suicide 30 years ago. He will also take time to urge attendees to think about doing their own writing, and especially a memoir of their own life, with some suggestions on how to go about it. Dr. Chilstrom will have copies of his books available for sale.

The gathering will begin with a soup lunch at 11:45 (free will offering). Participants are asked to register in advance by sending an email to Wayne Peterson, wpeterson@stbarnabaslutheran.org.
