SeAM Movie Night on Refugee Perspectives

Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 7:00pm

Fellowship Hall, Christ on Capitol Hill, 105 University Ave. West, St. Paul. Join Southeast Asian Ministry (SeAM) for movie night to learn more about refugee perspectives. We will gather to watch and discuss Don’t Fence Me In: Major Mary and the Karen Refugees From Burma (2004), a documentary about the fascinating story of 70-year-old freedom fighter Major Mary, who now lives in a refugee camp on the Thailand-Burma border. Please bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage and join us! Popcorn will be provided.

What is a synod?

Offering

Within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a synod is an administrative and missional geographic region, overseen by a bishop who provides direction to staff, a synod council, and volunteers from its congregations for vision, support, and resources to carry out mission and ministry. The Saint Paul Area Synod is one of 65 synods in the ELCA and the second largest in the number of baptized members.

Our synod is involved in local and global mission. Collaborative mission tables, mission renewal opportunities for congregations seeking to revitalize their ministry, companion synod endeavors, and supervision and mentoring for mission developers have sought to broaden partnerships among local congregations and the synod and spark and multiply mission opportunities.
